Compiègne
The weather has ben really bad lately, not cold, not hot, not rainy, not sunny. Kind of like nothing. Well, yesterday the sun came out before another bad thunderstorm hit the city. When we got to Compiègne there was basically noone there. That was nice. So we first walked around the park, which was planted with lots of flowers and palm trees.
The town of Comiègne is very cute and you can visit it´s townhall. Unfortunatelly not on Sundays, but it´s supposed to have a museum with lots of tiny soldier replicats. The town is situated on the Oise, that´s a river which is still very natural and you can rent little boats.
Of course the best part is the chateau. It was totally reconstruced under Louis XIII. When you walk in, you have to go through the souvenir shop. Apparently in there you have to pay. We don´t know, we didn´t pay. We went straight to the bathrooms and after that into another room and another an so on. There was noone checking tickets. Because in the first rooms they have a bike museum with lots of bikes from 1820-1890 we thought it was for free. Although, when we went upstairs to look at all the royal rooms, we saw everybody with audioguides. We figuered that it must have cost something to get in. Well, because we didn´t have an audioguide I have no idea what I was looking at. I can describe it as old furnitures and some paintings. The chateau is hughe though. I don´t know through how many rooms we walked - a lot! In the end we found out that we be both had saved 6,50 Euros.
After Compiègne we drove to another castle. Not far away, actually the two are connected with each other by a big forest. At the chateau in Compiègne begins the forest and you can see a very long path through the forest, 15km, to Pierrefonds, the other castle.
This castle is a lot older, although reconstruced in the 17th cetury. It leaves you with a mideaval impression and is great to look at.
